Is 7 the lucky number?

When the Windows Vista operating system was released, it was not to rave reviews. Now that Windows 7 OS is out will the die-hard Windows XP fans finally upgrade? Let’s explore a few of the new features of Windows 7 and see how they stack up against Windows Vista.
Windows 7 offers something entirely new called “Jump Lists”. Jump Lists are accessed by right clicking on a program icon like Internet Explorer. You can also find Jump Lists on the Start Menu. What is offered on these lists will depend on the program. You can access your favorite website, documents, songs, or shortcuts to functions within a program like writing an email with a minimum of effort. Two clicks is all it will take.
This new OS comes with built-in spyware and malware protection with Windows Defender. While this was offered in Vista, Windows 7 improves the workings of Windows Defender. This new features offers single click removal of suspect software with the “Clean System” feature. It is also part of Action Center which, according to Microsoft, is a “streamlined place for keeping your PC running smoothly.”
Last are multimedia features. Play To is a new feature of Windows 7. It works with other Windows 7 computers as well as devices labeled with the "Compatible with Windows 7" logo. If your stereo or TV is one of these devices, you can use this feature to play music and videos from your computer on these networked devices.
Windows 7 is Microsoft’s answer to the ills of Windows Vista. But does it really improve the computer experience from that of Windows Vista? According to CNET, performance is not always faster than Vista. While the new operation system is faster to shut down, it is slower to start up. Overall, word on the street is that Windows 7 is what Windows Vista should have been. Upgrading is not difficult, but does require backing up your computer. If you are in the market to buy a new PC or laptop, consider getting one with Windows 7 pre-loaded.
