Digital Camera Memory Cards: questions to keep in mind

The best feature of digital cameras is you are able to set your trigger finger free and take as many pictures as your heart desires. Or is it? As much as you would like to believe that your digital camera’s picture snapping abilities are endless, the reality is it all depends on your memory card. Choosing the right memory card makes all the difference. Here are 3 questions to ask when purchasing a memory card:
1. Is it compatible with my camera?
Unfortunately for digital camera aficionados everywhere, there is no universal memory card on the market. Be sure you know what kind of memory card your camera requires. At the moment, you can choose between Compact Flash (CF), Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick, and XD-picture to find out more about their individual features, click here .
2. Is it fast enough?
Believe it or not some digital camera memory cards are slower than others. If your camera takes pictures at a much faster rate than your card can save them, you will have to wait a lot longer in between shots. For example, regular digital cameras have a slower writing speed than professional SLR cameras. (But is this based on the memory card or the fact that these are 2 different cameras?)
3. Is it big enough?
Determining whether your memory card has enough capacity depends on the resolution your digital camera has and the amount of images you want to store on your card. Seem a little complicated? It’s simple to figure it out with the BestBuy.com memory card calculator.
