Power Mat

Power Mat

The Powermat is a wireless charging device that is used to charge electronics. It is meant to reduce the number of power cords you use to charge these devices. It comes in two styles: home/office and portable. Both models come with the Powercube Universal Receiver and 8 connector tips (USB – both mini and micro, Apple, DS – lite and DSi, LG, Samsung, Sony PSP).

In order to use the Powermat you simply put the device down on the mat while in its case. Otherwise, you plug your device into the Powercube and it charges your electronic device. When a device is placed on the Powermat it identifies the devices, determines how much juice the devices needs and then starts charging it. Once the Powercube completes charging a particular device, it stops charging it.

Make sure you weigh the pros and cons before making this purchase. First, in the case of the Powermat, the claims by the manufacturer do not indicate any faster charging time. In fact, they claim it will charge your electronics at the same rate as the power cord does.

There is also a “green” aspect to consider. What will you do with all those power cords that came with your electronic devices? How efficient is the Powermat? Will it use more power to charge your devices than using the power cord would? Efficiency and power usage questions have not been answered yet to our knowledge.

All in all, this is a nifty device with advantages and disadvantages to be considered. In the end, it is a personal decision each person has to make on whether or not it is worth buying. It will not fix anything like a device with short battery life, but it will reduce those power cords.
