The big question on many gamers’ minds lately is: when is the next generation Wii going to be released?
Nintendo has no official information on their website – no press releases, no news articles, nothing. Several articles on the web indicate that the Wii2 will be released in 2010 or 2011. Another article indicates that no Wii2 is on the horizon for some time. All "news" on this subject is purely conjecture and wishful thinking.
Word on the street for what new features the Wii2 will have read more like a wish list. More memory is definitely on the list – either a hard drive [1] or larger flash memory. Support for playback of DVD [2] or some form of high definition support is also in order. The last one is for better graphics.
No news yet on how much this game console will set you back. The first generation Wii console has come down in price to $199. How much would you spend to play games?
Overall, game companies release new hardware in cycles. Release them too quickly and your base cannot afford to keep up. Release them too slowly and your base gets bored. Is 2010/2011 too soon or just soon enough? The answer to that will depend on when you got your Wii console. In any event, the Wii is going to be around for quite a while to come. Let’s wait for Nintendo to announce when the Wii2 will be released before getting all excited.
