You got so many young guys on the defense.So basically, through six games and four losses, Florida State is just waiting for the defense to gel. To Bowden, its that simple. The coach has so much faith and trust in Andrewsjust like he did in his son and former offensive coordinator Jeff Bowdenit never crosses his mind that anything other than the players could be to blame for the defenses struggles. Meanwhile, Andrews said the game plan was deliberately kept simple in an attempt to get his players to execute better. He also said the Yellow Jackets were forced to punt just once.But they werentnot even once. For example, a Boston College team that scored 21 first-half points last week against Florida States defense, trailed 34-0 at the half against Virginia Tech on Saturday. BC freshman quarterback Dave Shinskie, who threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Seminoles last week, finished 1 for 12 for four yards and two interceptions before being replaced against Virginia Tech.

The Eagles also rushed for nearly 200 yards against Florida State, compared to the 45 rushing yards they earned Saturday against the Hokies. FSUs offense has also converted 50 percent of its chances on third downa marked improvement from the Jeff Bowden eraand has coached the Seminoles best quarterback since Chris Weinke. Through six games, Ponder has completed 68 percent of his passes, averaged nearly 300 passing yards per game, and has thrown nine touchdown passes to just one interception. Moreover, Fisher has proven himself to be an effective recruiter and has built quality depth at every position on offense.

Ponder is backed up by redshirt freshman and four-star recruit E.J Manuel. Despite losing two of the teams top receivers last season, four receivers have caught 20 or more passes through six games in 2009, and seven different players have been on the receiving-end of Ponders touchdown passes. In the backfield, Florida State boasts five capable running backsnot to mention Ponderand three of them have scored two or more touchdowns so far this season. I say all this to contend that thus far, Jimbo Fisher has done his job and done it well, and I find little reason to believe he wont continue to do so as Florida States next head coach. Many believe the Seminoles have begun a downward spiral this season and will be forced to endure a long rebuilding process thereafter I am not one of them.

They currently sit tied with the Calgary Stampeders for best record in the West at 8-6, but due to the tie breaker rules, the Roughriders are at the top spot with the Stampeders right behind.The Roughriders beat the Toronto Argonauts on Thanksgiving day weekend (in Canada) by a score of 32-22. Roughriders' quarterback Darian Durant had what was probably his best game of the season as he threw for almost 200 yards and 3 touchdowns on 14-23 attempts. The Argo quarterbacks on the other hand did not fair as well Kerry Joseph got the start, but both QB's played. They combined for 116 yards and 1 interception with no touchdowns on 13-28 attempts.Both teams' run games did well as the Argo rushers combined for 145 yards with Jamal Robertson getting the most at 14 carries for 86 yards. The Riders' rushing game was also balanced among different players as they ran for 156 yards, with Wes Cates getting the bulk of the carries with 17 which resulted in 80 yards.The biggest story of the game however was probably not the Roughriders at the top spot in the west. Unfortunately, it was the fact that the Riders' best offensive player Weston Dressler will be out for the rest of the season with a broken fibula and a severely sprained ankle.Coach Ken Miller announced that non-import receiver Adam Nicolson will be taking his spot in the starting rotation which leaves some fans wondering why him, and not Jason Clermont. Although Clermont, the former 1000 yard receiver won't be a starter, I'm sure he will play a lot more after the injury to Dressler.Special teams had it's ups and downs for the Riders on Saturday.
